Recent history distinguishes the small city on the Mulde in Central Germany as the town with the most beautiful old town centre.
Take a close look at Grimma's more than 800-year history and you'll find something astonishing: The city is the birthplace of Albrecht the Brave, ancestor of the Saxon royal family. In 1797, the famous Leipzig bookseller, Georg Joachim Göschen, moved to "one of the most beautiful areas in the world" with his print shop, publishing house and summer residence. In Grimma, he published works by Goethe and Schiller, among many others. At his side was the globetrotter and poet Johann Gottfried Seume, who set off for Syracuse from Grimma. Today, the workshop and summer residence are a meeting point for visitors from all over the world.

Upstream, past Saxony's longest suspension bridge and the imposing Gattersburg, the Nimbschen Monastery Ruins are a particularly romantic reminder of Katharina von Bora, Martin Luther and the Reformation. In the course of the Luther Decade, Grimma is being showcased as a "place of the Reformation" with a multitude of important activities in a cultural-historical form. Nearby, the small village of Höfgen appeals to more than just the senses: In this certified holiday village, where ancient mill wheels are still rattling along, you can discover sculptural treasures or take a walk through the fragrant orchards. In addition to a wide selection of family packages and culinary specialities, a "ringing" tower, a modern gallery and a geological hiking trail serve as a delightful diversion. Above all, however, the banks of the Mulde are an ideal starting point for tours on the Mulde cycle path or hikes along the Muldental hiking path.
