March 1st, 2022 by

The 2022 season kicks off with the unveiling of new Formula 1 cars such as F1-75 from Ferrari.

These cars were purposely designed to comply with the new FIA sustainability regulations.  On February 17th, the usual celebration of Ferrari’s founder Enzo and his birthday, the Scuderia introduced to the world its new championship competitor. The event aired via multiple streaming platforms. The video starred Mattia Binotto – team principal – along with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. talking about the project. Ferrari named the project  SF-75, in honor of the 75th anniversary of Ferrari in Formula 1. Finally, the message from John Elkann – Ferrari’s President – which recalled Ferrari’s need to return to the championship competitor spot, as the importance of winning races to increase the passion and the showcasing of know-how and technological superiority coming from Maranello, while continuing to fueling the fan base worldwide. We will have to watch and see how the F1-75 fairs in upcoming races.

F1-75

 The first test in Barcelona

The tests in Bahrain (March 10-12) are going to give a clearer picture of which teams are going to show greater strengths with their new cars under the new regulations. Ferrari looked to be the most convincing in terms of ease of drive and performance in Barcelona. The F1-75 was the car that grinded the most laps and showed a polished and excellent form. While Binotto, after unveiling the car two weeks ago practiced cautions, Leclerc and Sainz left Barcelona with a very satisfied feeling about the car. They believe it is already very well balanced and distributed, showing a renowned strength in fast corners and curves. On the other hand,  Binotto asks fans to watch the next 6/7 Gran Prix before making an accurate statement about Ferrari’s real potential.

Ferrari looked to be positively responsive to the new 18 inches tires. The new tires decrease the amount of tires’ consumption. This is due to the new Pirelli’s limiting degradation and allowing cars to push harder for longer laps.

There are lots of positive feedback regarding the new Ferrari. From progresses on the thermal part of the engine to the new hybrid engine complying with 2022 rules. Ferrari promised that it has been a key project since 2018. This could deliver an overall power as similar to the ones from Mercedes and Honda.
