Anna Paquin is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love she's received amid her ongoing health journey.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, published on Friday, April 5, the actress, 41, shared that she's been "extraordinarily touched" by the support from her fans since walking the A Bit of Light red carpet with the assistance of a cane.

"I am extraordinarily touched and moved by people showing that they care and being interested and kind about it," said Paquin of the response to her Wednesday, April 3 event appearance.

For the past two years, the Oscar winner has dealt with an undisclosed health issue that has left her with mobility issues and difficulties with her speech. Of her health, a source previously told PEOPLE that Paquin will hopefully make a full recovery.

Paquin added in her conversation ET she is "just really grateful for the support" and said, "At some point, I will probably elaborate on my own platform in my own words."

In A Bit of Light, directed by her husband Stephen Moyer, Paquin plays Ella, an almost 40-year-old woman who moves back in with her father, played by Ray Winstone. It is based on the novel by Rebecca Callard, who also wrote the screenplay.

"She's trying to stay sober having temporarily given up custody of her young daughters to her ex-husband Joseph and his new partner Bethan," a synopsis explains.

On the film's red carpet, Paquin told PEOPLE that dealing with her health issues "hasn't been easy," but she is grateful to be doing what she loves.

"My first love was independent filmmaking. That's how I entered the film industry. I was working with people who were all about telling stories and telling them with integrity and truth," said the actress.

Of working with her husband, 54, whom she wed in August 2010, she shared that "he's my favorite person to play with."

"Honestly, if I didn't think he was great at directing, I wouldn't be working with him," said Paquin. "Of course, I love him dearly as my husband, but I'm pretty unsentimental when it comes to work."

Being that their project had to be filmed in under three weeks, Paquin added that there were "definitely upsides" to working together.

"It had to be good, fast, cheap. It was great to have that time at home to talk about what was going to happen the next day," she explained.

A Bit of Light is now in theaters.
