Neonode, the Swedish handset designer and manufacturer, has recently announced a special promotion that allows select users to buy the unique Neonode N2 touchscreen phone for half the initial price.

The "Friends & Family campaign" (that's how it's named) offers the N2 for only $199 (123 Euros or 99 GBP), after a mail-in rebate. The price drop is available only for Neonode's shareholders as well as for the current Neonode product owners, their family and friends. All the eligible users can buy up to 5 N2 handsets for the new price. Moreover, they also benefit from a 50% discount on any accessory on sale on Neonode's online shop.

The promotion will last until August 31, so if you're among the users who bought a Neonode N2 and got to like it, your friends and family can now get the tiny touchscreen phone too, for a decent retail price.

"We want to show our appreciation to all our valued shareholders and customers by presenting this opportunity for each of them to experience the truly unique Neonode N2," said Mr. Per Bystedt, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Neonode. "We also want them to be able to share this enjoyment with all their friends and family. With the recent upgraded software the Neonode N2 is now fiercer than ever before."

First released at the end of 2007, Neonode N2 is one of the smallest and lightest touchscreen handsets on the market (it measures 77 x 47 x 14.7 millimeters and weighs 60 grams). Its highlights are a 2 inch TFT touchscreen display with 65K colors and 176 x 220 pixels, a user-friendly Neno interface patented by Neonode, a 1GB miniSD card, a 2 Megapixel camera, Web browser, Media player, Bluetooth and MMS capabilities. The handset also features quad-band GSM connectivity with GPRS.

A few weeks ago, Neonode issued a software upgrade for the N2, enhancing its capabilities and bringing support for more languages (Chinese included).
