Gender : Female

Nationality : South Korea

KIM Hye-ja is the iconic symbol of a mother in Korea who embraces their children with endless love and unconditional sacrifice. Given her nickname as “Korea’s mother,” it is natural that she returned to the silver screen with <Mother>. In <Mother> directed by [BONG Joon-ho], she adds an eerie personality to a stereotypical Korean mother. KIM’s character, a mother, trying to clear her son of a murder charge, climbed a barren hill in a deep despair as if her world had collapsed around her. In a moment, she put on a secretive look. She was capable of stimulating adrenaline rush of a thriller with just one glance. Her acting caliber comes from decades of acting training and experience. KIM made a movie appearance in Mother for the first time in 10 years since she portrayed an anti-stereotypical mother in <Mayonnaise>. She won the Best Actress awards at the 2010 Asian Film Awards. Following some work on television she took on another film role as a wealthy restaurateur whose dog is taken by young girls hoping to get some reward money in the family film <How to Steal a Dog>, based on a book by Barbara O’Connor, in 2014.
